UK Co-operatives announce first ever Co-operatives Fortnight
Ed Mayo, Secretary General of Co-operatives UK, announced today the launch of the first ever Co-operatives Fortnight - a major campaign to spread the message across the UK about the co-operative alternative.
The Fortnight will run from 19 June to 3 July 2010 with the theme 'There is an alternative...' and Co-operatives UK is urging co-operatives from across the nation to get involved.
In the aftermath of the recession, Co-operatives UK believes a new era of co-operative business is upon us and has already highlighted the co-operative alternative across many different businesses including pubs, football clubs, healthcare, agriculture, credit unions and community owned shops.
The Co-operative Fortnight will include major activities, announcements and the release of a series of national reports and pieces that will outline key trends across the co-operative sector.
The Fortnight will include the UK's most influential gathering of co-operatives - Co-operatives 2010 (25-27 June) - and conclude with International Co-operatives Day on 3 July 2010.
