Outstanding Practice award for Equality and Diversity won by The Cyrenians
The Cyrenians’ ‘Ready for Work’ programme has won the award for Outstanding Practice at The North East Equality Awards held at the Gosforth Park Marriott Hotel.
The Award was sponsored by Working Links, a company responsible for sustainable employment working in some of the most deprived areas of the country to address the challenges faced by people who are long-term unemployed.
Now in its eighth year, the annual awards promote diversity and equality in the workplace and celebrate good equality practice carried out in the region.
The Cyrenians were overall winners in the category, promoting Equality and Diversity in the workplace against other finalists from a wide range of public, private and third sector organisations who were also shortlisted.
Stephen Bell, Group Chief Executive of The Cyrenians, said:
"We are very proud to have our efforts to promote equality and diversity throughout The Cyrenians recognised in this way.
"The Outstanding Practice Award is a great example of our staff, and The Cyrenians as a whole, embracing the benefits of good equality practice and understanding the value that a diverse staff team can bring."
The ‘Ready for Work’ programme offers clients the opportunity to improve their job prospects through pre-employment training, work experience placements with leading UK employers and one to one job coaching with the business volunteers. To date the programme has been outstandingly successful; during the last year 43 people have been supported into sustainable employment and all 43 are still committed to and enjoying their working lives.
