Move Your Money launches in the UK
A new campaign, called Move Your Money, encouraging individuals to switch to more ethical banks was launched on 31 January 2012.
Based on a similar campaign in the United States, the UK campaign aims to encourage people to move their current and savings accounts to fairer and more local forms of bank – specifically credit unions, building societies and The Co-operative Bank.
One of the main aspects of the campaign asks members of the public to pledge a date in March to make the change. People can use the http://moveyourmoney.org.uk to upload their pledge date and also find out more information, download posters and fliers, and get tips on how to plan a Move Your Money event.
Since the credit crunch, The Co-operative Bank has been named by the Financial Times as the world's most sustainable bank, while Nationwide Building Society has been listed by Global Finance Magazine as one of the world's safest financial institutions.
The UK Move Your Money campaign hopes to achieve the success of the American campaign which provoked over 600,000 people to change their accounts.
