Enterprising Britain 2010 competition deadline approaching
Enterprising Britain, the national competition aimed at identifying and rewarding the nations most enterprising place, is underway with the 31 May deadline fast approaching.
The competition, which is part of the governments initiative to inspire entrepreneurial activity in Britain, is in its sixth year and seeks to reward locations where enterprise is creating jobs and transforming communities.
Enterprising Britain is run by Enterprise UK on behalf of the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in partnership with the Regional Development Agencies (RDA's) and the Devolved Administrations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The competition is free to enter for all organisations in Britain that work in partnership to encourage enterprising places. The location in question can be a town, city, parish or neighbourhood and organisations must prove that enterprise is key to the community's economic and/or social development.
The 2010 competition features five categories - Enterprise Culture, Driving Entrepreneurial Skills, Business Support and Start-Up, Global Entrepreneurship and Social Cohesion - of which organisations can apply for one or more.
The competition involves a regional awards ceremony, at which Go Wansbeck was last years North East regional winner, where winners receive a tailored PR package to further them in their success. Regional winners are then shortlisted to appear at the national awards ceremony at which the overall winner will receive:
- Recognition from government, business and policy makers
- Both regional and national media coverage
- Press and PR support to promote their award and work overall
- A winners trophy presented at the national awards
- Automatic nomination as a UK representative to the European Enterprise Awards
- Use of the Enterprising Britain 2010 winner logo

Closing date for entries is 21 June 2010.
