Enterprise Coaching for disadvantaged communities in South Tyneside
An innovative new project to be delivered by Tyneside Economic Development Company (TEDCO) will provide intensive enterprise coaching for disadvantaged communities in South Tyneside, supporting the development of enterprise as an alternative career path and providing training and mentoring and opportunities to research and test enterprising ideas.
The 'Enterprise Coaching' project is financed partly by the European Union's ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) Competitiveness Programme, with £810,000 ERDF investment secured through regional development agency One North East. This investment was matched by South Tyneside Council, bringing the total project investment to just over £1.6 million.
The project will provide intensive one-to-one pre-business start up enterprise coaching for 1,500 people with enterprising ideas over the following two years, ensuring that at least 560 of these progress to mainstream North East Business Link support services.
Delivered by TEDCO's community based enterprise coaches throughout South Tyneside, the project aims to enable people to develop and explore appropriate business ideas encouraging self-employment, social enterprise and increased business creation and survival, with a particular emphasis on members of social groups who are under-represented in business start up and enterprise.
