Co-operatives UK revise legal guide for local food community enterprises
As part of its Making Local Food Work project Co-operatives UK has revised its legal guide, 'Simply Legal', aimed at community enterprises involved in, or looking to become involved in, local food in order to achieve its goal of increasing awareness of local food for communities across Britain. The guide is part of a comprehensive package of support and advice for new and emerging coomunity food enterprises across the country.
Co-operatives UK hopes to provide community enterprises with the legal and organisational knowledge required to set up a local food enterprise and aims by 2012 to support 650 food enterprises to increase access to and awareness of local food co-operatives and initiatives for one million people.
Simply Legal is available to download via the Co-operatives UK website and is a comprehensive guide covering the following topics:
- Incorporation
- Legal forms
- Organisational types
- Ownership and asset locking
- Charitable status
A new telephone helpline providing information on legal forms has also been launched. The helpline can be contacted by phoning 0161 246 2907.
