CATS to restore allotments
A new project, CATS (Choppington Allotment Training Service), will be managed by Blyth Star Enterprises from their Stakeford Nurseries with support from Choppington Parish Council.
''This 7 year partnership is a long term commitment to see the full restoration, planting and harvesting of 7 redundant and overgrown allotments. We are delighted that Stakeford Nurseries will be developing this highly innovative training project together with the local community'' said Parish Councillor Paul Vaughan.
Barry Lyden from Blyth Star said, ''We will be growing fruit, vegetables and salads and we hope to recruit volunteers to work alongside people who are unemployed or experience learning difficulties or mental ill health. The result will be an improved environment for the whole community, fresh produce and healthy productive lifestyles.''
The partnership is part of Choppington Parish Council's programme of improving local amenities for the enjoyment of local people.
Anyone interested in volunteering please contact Neil Hedley at Stakeford Nurseries on 01670 855130 or David L. Nicholson, Parish Clerk on 01670 858664.
