Cabinet Office Structural Reform plan outlines plans for Big Society Bank
The Cabinet Office announced this month that the first funds from the Big Society Bank, which will draw on resources from dormant bank accounts, will be available from April 2011.
Plans for the Big Society Bank, and idea originally conceived by the Labour government, were outlined as part of the Cabinet Office Structural Reform plan which reveals the new coalition governments overall strategy to create the ‘Big Society’.
The Structural Reform plan summarises actions the government will implement in the building of the Big Society including:
- Making it easier to run a charity, social enterprise or voluntary organization
- Getting more resources into the sector through social investment, giving and philanthropy
- Making it easier for sector organizations to work with the State
- Developing a social norms agenda
- Encouraging volunteering and involvement in social action
- Initiating the development of a National Citizens Service
