A further three North East organisations awarded the Social Enterprise Mark
A further three North East based social enterprises have been awarded the Social Enterprise Mark, the mark that defines a business as being driven by social or environmental objectives.
Amongst the three social enterprises to be awarded the Mark are NESEP members Craghead Development Trust, the County Durham based organisation that works to inspire social and economic regeneration in Craghead, and Digital Voice for Communities, the community interest company that provides media resource services to empower community groups.
Hylton Castle based organisation Sunderland North Family Zone was also recently awarded the Social Enterprise Mark, bringing the total number of North East Social Enterprise Mark holders to 12.
Linda Procopis, Manager of Sunderland North Family Zone, said:
“It is great to be awarded the Social Enterprise Mark. As a charity that provides support and learning to the local community, the Mark helps us to evidence and promote the fact that our profits are reimbursed back into the running of the company, which enables to do more and more beneficial work. We hope becoming Mark holders will help promote our services further and will help us when bidding for funds and contracts.”
The newly awarded organisations join fellow North East based Social Enterprise Mark holders Community IT Academy, Tees Active, The Ideas Mine, Northern Doctors Urgent Care, Commonwheels, SES, Equality North East, Community Campus ’87 and Acumen.
The Social Enterprise Mark is awarded to organisations that can demonstrate certain criteria including having social and/or environmental aims, its own constitution and governing body, that at least 50% of company profits are spent on socially beneficial purposes and that at least 50% of its income is generated from trading.
