In Conversation with the Cabinet Office Event
Thursday 2nd February 2012 12noon – 2pm
Gateshead Citizens’ Advice Bureau (new building - The Davidson Building, Swan Street, Gateshead NE8 1BG)
At the ‘Pentagon Partnership – the future’ event in summer 2011, delegates said that two key priorities for Pentagon in 2012 should be as follows:
- Support with getting the third sector’s message across to decision-makers and commissioners
- Link in to regional and national government agencies
In response to this clear call to action, we’re delighted to welcome Ian Dodds to the first Business Plus event of 2012. Ian is a Policy Manager in the Office for Civil Society’s Local Intelligence Team. His role is to provide a two-way communication channel between the third sector and the Cabinet Office.
The team aims to develop a good understanding of where good practice – as well as issues and challenges for the sector - exists, feeding this back to central Government to inform and influence policy and programmes.
The intelligence and feedback they gather goes straight back into the heart of Government. Ian will begin the session by talking about the emerging powers through the Localism Act and proposed opportunities and challenges for the sector under the Open Public Services White Paper, but largely the event will be a chance for Ian to listen, and you to talk:
- What are the current and emerging issues for the third sector in Tyne and Wear?
- What might some of the solutions be? What works well already?
- How can government, local authorities – and the sector itself – ensure that civil society organisations are supported to thrive in an increasingly difficult environment?
As ever at Business Plus events, a free lunch will be served at noon.
The event is also a chance to visit Gateshead CAB’s innovative new building – third sector enterprise and ambition in the heart of Tyneside!
To book your place on this free event, please email . Please let us know if you have any dietary or access requirements.
Please also note that places are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis to third sector organisations that work in Tyne and Wear.
Business Plus network events are part of the Big Lottery-funded Specialist Support Services programme of activity for third sector organisations in Tyne and Wear. Each event features a presentation on a topical business-related subject and is a great chance to network with other organisations from across Tyne and Wear. Events take place over lunch, usually on the first Thursday of each month
